Several major roads in Manila will be closed to motorists
from October 30 to November 3 as authorities prepare for the expected influx of
people visiting cemeteries during the Undas observance.
The Manila Police District (MPD) identified Blumentritt
Road, Dimasalang Street, Maceda Street, and Aurora Boulevard as affected
routes. The Metro Manila Council designated these areas for traffic
restrictions because of the anticipated concentration of pedestrians heading to
Manila North Cemetery and Manila South Cemetery.
To manage the crowds and maintain public safety, the MPD
plans to deploy 1,000 police personnel under a skeletal deployment beginning
October 28. According to MPD spokesperson Maj. Philipp Ines, officers will be
assigned to Manila North and South cemeteries, as well as La Loma Cemetery and
Manila Chinese Cemetery.
Authorities are also reminding the public to follow cemetery
security rules. Firearms, alcoholic beverages, sound systems, and other
prohibited items will not be allowed inside the burial grounds.
Families planning to visit with young children are advised
to attach identification tags to their children’s clothing. This precaution can
help authorities identify and reunite children with their guardians if they
become separated in crowded areas.
Motorists are encouraged to plan alternative routes ahead of
the scheduled closures, while cemetery visitors should allow extra travel time
and follow instructions from traffic enforcers and police personnel.
