BIR Registration Seal Badges: 52,700 Secured Ahead of October 31 Deadline

More than 52,700 online sellers, service providers, and content creators have obtained Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) registration seal badges as of October 14, marking progress in the agency's effort to simplify tax compliance while protecting taxpayers' personal information.

The digital badges provide an alternative to publicly displaying an entire Certificate of Registration (COR) or electronic Certificate of Registration on websites, social media business pages, and other online platforms. The previous requirement raised privacy concerns because registration documents may contain personal information that taxpayers do not necessarily need to disclose to customers.

Introduced under Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 38-2026, the registration seal badge allows covered taxpayers to demonstrate their BIR registration without exposing their complete registration documents.

BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza said the initiative aims to make online transactions more secure and convenient. He emphasized that proving a business is registered should not require taxpayers to make their entire registration documents publicly accessible.

The agency has also extended the deadline for displaying the badges to October 31, 2026, under Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 99-2026. The extension gives covered taxpayers additional time to obtain their badges and place them on their applicable online business pages and digital platforms.

The BIR is urging those who have not yet secured their badges to complete the process before the deadline. Compliance is particularly relevant to businesses and individuals who promote or provide goods and services through digital channels.

Consumers can also benefit from the system. By scanning a registration seal badge, prospective customers can verify a seller's or service provider's BIR registration before proceeding with an online transaction.

The initiative introduces a more privacy-conscious approach to digital tax compliance. Rather than requiring businesses to publish sensitive registration paperwork, the badge serves as a more convenient way to demonstrate registration while helping customers check a business's legitimacy.
