Pokémon World Championships 2027 to Be Held in Singapore

Singapore to Host Pokémon World Championships in 2027

SINGAPORE will become the center of the competitive Pokémon world in 2027 after The Pokémon Company confirmed that the city-state will host next year’s Pokémon World Championships.

The announcement was made by Pokémon Company President Tsunekazu Ishihara at the Chase Center in San Francisco as the 2026 Pokémon World Championships and the inaugural Pokémon XP event reached their conclusion.

The move marks a return of the premier Pokémon competition to Asia after a three-year gap. The World Championships were last staged in the region in 2023, when Japan served as host.

Ishihara revealed Singapore as next year’s destination during the closing proceedings, signaling the franchise’s continued expansion of its major live events across international markets.

For Singapore, the hosting assignment places the city at the forefront of one of the world’s largest gaming and trading card communities. The Pokémon World Championships bring together top competitors across multiple disciplines, making the event more than a conventional gaming tournament. It functions as a global gathering point for players, collectors and fans of the franchise.

The 2026 event in San Francisco also featured Pokémon XP, a new fan-focused experience that expanded the scope of the celebrations beyond the championship competitions.

Several major franchise announcements were unveiled during the closing program, including updates involving Pokémon Unite, Pokémon Champions and the Pokémon Trading Card Game.

The company also revealed a new Pokémon movie titled Pokémon: Wildcard, adding another major project to the franchise’s expanding slate.

The event concluded on a high note with a surprise appearance by British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, who performed his rendition of the Pokémon theme song for the audience.

With San Francisco now wrapped up, attention shifts to Singapore, where the Pokémon World Championships will bring the global competitive community together again in 2027.
