The Philippines is set to compete on two of the biggest
stages in competitive gaming after confirming its participation in both League
of Legends and Valorant at the inaugural Esports Nations Cup 2026 in Riyadh,
Saudi Arabia this November.
The country's journey to the tournament reflects two
different paths to the same destination. The Philippine League of Legends
roster battled through the Southeast Asia and Oceania qualifiers, while the
Valorant squad secured an outright invitation after earning enough ranking
points through consistent performances in Riot Games competitions.
The Filipino League of Legends team, composed of Reven
Relhia Lhi Aloit, Joshua Devoured Escucharo, Cherv Cherb Dorad, Kyle Dawn
Somera, and Jan Cresho Hortizuela, claimed one of only two regional
qualification spots. Their campaign featured a resilient lower bracket run,
overcoming Guam, Australia, and Singapore to book a place at the main event.
National coach Ralph Andrei Leathergoods Llabres said the
qualification demonstrates the country's long overlooked potential in League of
Legends. He noted that the achievement reflects the dedication of the players,
coaches, and support staff, while proving that Filipino teams can challenge
stronger international opponents when provided with the right opportunities.
Valorant presented a different success story. Instead of
going through qualifiers, the Philippines received a direct invitation to the
32 nation tournament after accumulating 4,875 ranking points, good for ninth
place in the global ENC standings. Those points were based on Filipino players'
performances in official Riot Games events through Masters London.
The national Valorant lineup features an accomplished roster
led by Masters Toronto champion Patrick PatMen Mendoza, VCT Pacific Stage 1
champion Adrian invy Reyes, UAAP Valorant champion and Southeast Asian Games
bronze medalist Xavier xavi8k Juan, SEA Games bronze medalist Brheyanne
Wild0reoo Reyes, together with local standouts Jhian Zeus Vega, Mark Markyyy
Tuling, and Kelly kellyS Sedillo.
National coach JC Rbtx Jamir expressed confidence in the
squad, emphasizing that trust, courage, and teamwork will drive the Philippines
as it aims to showcase its strength against the world's best teams.
Having teams in both League of Legends and Valorant gives the Philippines a stronger presence at the Esports Nations Cup. One roster earned its place through a demanding qualification campaign, while the other secured entry through sustained excellence on the international circuit. Together, they highlight the country's continued rise as a competitive force in global esports.
