Residents in five municipalities and cities across the
Philippines will observe special non-working days in the coming weeks as
Malacañang approved local holidays tied to festivals, anniversaries, and
significant milestones.
The declarations, issued through a series of presidential
proclamations, are intended to give communities an opportunity to take part in
major local occasions while recognizing events that hold historical and
cultural importance.
The first holiday falls on August 28 in San Agustin,
Romblon, where residents will mark the Kalipayan Festival. The date
was designated a special non-working day under Proclamation No. 1397.
In Iriga City, Camarines Sur, September 3 will be
observed as a special non-working day in recognition of the city's 58th
charter anniversary. The holiday was established through Proclamation
No. 1398.
Meanwhile, residents of Loon, Bohol will have a
special non-working day on September 8 for the SidlaKasilak Festival,
also known as the Festival of Lights. The declaration is covered by Proclamation
No. 1399.
Siquijor will observe its local holiday on September 12,
commemorating the 54th anniversary of its declaration as the capital of the
province of Siquijor. The occasion was recognized through Proclamation
No. 1400.
The final declaration covers Monkayo, Davao de Oro,
where September 14 has been designated a special non-working day for the
municipality's 72nd founding anniversary under Proclamation No. 1401.
Taken together, the proclamations highlight how local
holidays serve more than a break from regular work. They provide communities
with time to celebrate their heritage, commemorate important milestones, and
participate in civic and cultural activities that reinforce local identity.
All five proclamations were signed by Executive Secretary
Ralph Recto on August 20, 2026, by authority of President Ferdinand Marcos
Jr.
