Sophia Laforteza Opens Up About ADHD, Explains the Hidden Challenges Behind Life in Katseye

While fans know Sophia Laforteza as one of the standout members of the global girl group Katseye, the Filipino singer recently offered a candid look into a personal challenge that has shaped much of her daily life.

In a recent video shared through Katseye's Weverse channel, Sophia revealed that she has been diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), opening up about the realities of living with the condition. The discussion began after she noticed a fan comment referring to her as an ADHD queen, prompting her to confirm the diagnosis during a conversation with fellow member Yoonchae.

Rather than focusing on common stereotypes surrounding ADHD, Sophia described the condition as a complex and deeply personal experience. She explained that for her, ADHD often manifests as persistent mental activity, difficulty maintaining focus, and ongoing sleep struggles. While some people associate ADHD primarily with physical hyperactivity, Sophia emphasized that the condition can appear in very different ways depending on the individual.

One of the most difficult aspects, she said, is the constant stream of thoughts running through her mind. The experience can resemble having multiple conversations occurring simultaneously inside one's head, making it challenging to remain fully present in everyday interactions. As a result, she sometimes misses people calling her name or unintentionally drifts away from conversations despite wanting to pay attention.

Sophia also highlighted the paradox many people with ADHD face. The condition can push someone toward intense concentration on a particular task while making it nearly impossible to focus on something else. At other times, the overwhelming number of competing thoughts can make even simple tasks feel difficult to start or complete.

Another challenge she shared involves executive functioning, a less visible symptom that often affects productivity. Despite having the skills and potential to accomplish certain goals, taking the first step can become an unexpected obstacle. This disconnect between ability and action is frequently misunderstood by others as laziness or a lack of motivation.

The singer disclosed that she received her official ADHD diagnosis several years ago, around the period when Katseye was beginning its journey. However, she only recently obtained a comprehensive report detailing the condition and its effects. Reflecting on her experiences, Sophia noted that forgetfulness remains a recurring issue. Interestingly, while she may struggle to recall details verbally, choreography often becomes second nature through muscle memory.

Beyond sharing her own story, Sophia used the opportunity to encourage greater understanding of ADHD. She stressed the importance of seeking professional evaluation for anyone who suspects they may have the condition, noting that ADHD extends far beyond the simplified assumptions many people hold about it.

Perhaps her most important message centered on acceptance. Sophia explained that coming to terms with her diagnosis was not immediate. Over time, she learned to recognize ADHD as a neurological condition rather than a reflection of character, work ethic, or personal discipline. That realization helped her separate the challenges caused by the disorder from judgments about who she is as a person.

The conversation resonated with fans because it shed light on an often misunderstood condition through genuine personal experience. By speaking openly about her struggles, Sophia contributed to a broader discussion about mental health awareness, diagnosis, and the value of professional support.

Since making its debut in 2024, Katseye has continued to build an international following through tracks such as Debut, Touch, Gabriela, Gameboy, Internet Girl, Gnarly, and Pinky Up, with Sophia remaining one of the group's most recognizable voices.
