Several local government units across the Philippines will observe special non-working holidays this June following the issuance of presidential proclamations recognizing significant local milestones and cultural commemorations.
Among the earliest observances is in Palapag, Northern Samar, where June 1 has been designated a special non-working holiday in honor of Sumuroy Day under Proclamation No. 1268. The annual event pays tribute to the historic legacy associated with the municipality and serves as a reminder of its enduring cultural identity.
Meanwhile, five other localities will enjoy a special non-working holiday on June 18 pursuant to Proclamations Nos. 1266, 1269, 1270, 1271, and 1272. The affected areas are Ambaguio in Nueva Vizcaya, Kalilangan in Bukidnon, Carmen in Davao del Norte, Presentacion in Camarines Sur, and Calintaan in Occidental Mindoro.
The holiday in Ambaguio will coincide with the municipality's founding anniversary, while Kalilangan will celebrate six decades since its establishment. In Davao del Norte, residents of Carmen will commemorate their town's founding anniversary through various local activities and civic events.
Presentacion, on the other hand, will mark its 65th Charter Anniversary, highlighting more than six decades of local governance and community development. Calintaan will celebrate its 60th founding anniversary, a milestone that reflects the municipality's growth and transformation over the years.
Local anniversaries function as more than ceremonial occasions. They provide communities with an opportunity to reflect on their historical journey, recognize achievements, and strengthen civic pride. By declaring special non-working holidays, the national government allows residents to participate more fully in activities that honor their local heritage and identity.
The proclamations were signed on May 26 by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto under the authority of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
