The Philippine running scene is entering a new phase of expansion as HOKA Midnight Run Asia prepares to stage its most extensive season to date in 2026. What began as a standout urban night race has evolved into a large-scale lifestyle event that merges endurance sports with entertainment culture, drawing both competitive runners and casual participants into the same high-energy environment.
Backed by HOKA and presented by GOMO, the upcoming edition will span six major cities nationwide. Organizers confirmed that the series will now include races in Davao, Manila, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo, and Clark, significantly widening its national reach.
The expanded calendar was formally introduced during a media launch held at Citadines Bay City Manila, where event organizers outlined plans for what is expected to become the largest staging in the franchise’s local history.
Rather than positioning itself as a conventional road race, HOKA Midnight Run Asia has built its identity around atmosphere and experience. Streets typically associated with traffic and congestion are transformed into illuminated race corridors filled with live music, immersive lighting installations, and entertainment zones that extend beyond the finish line. The formula resembles a music festival layered onto a performance run, creating an environment that appeals even to participants who are new to organized racing.
RUNRIO president Rio de la Cruz emphasized that the objective extends beyond competition. According to organizers, the event is designed to encourage broader participation in fitness while cultivating a stronger sense of community around movement and active living.
The growth trajectory of the series has been especially evident in Manila, which remains the centerpiece of the national circuit. The capital stop drew approximately 18,000 runners in 2025, making it the largest event in the HOKA Midnight Run Asia lineup. Organizers anticipate a higher turnout in 2026 as interest continues to surge among both veteran runners and first-time participants.
The nationwide schedule begins in Davao City on May 31 before moving to Manila on July 19. The series then proceeds to Cagayan de Oro on August 2, Cebu City on October 11, Iloilo City on October 25, and concludes in Clark on November 15.
The expansion reflects a broader shift occurring within the Philippine fitness sector, where races are no longer viewed solely as athletic contests. Modern running events increasingly function as social gatherings, tourism drivers, and cultural experiences. In that environment, HOKA Midnight Run Asia has positioned itself at the intersection of sport, nightlife, and community engagement.
With six host cities now on the calendar, the 2026 season represents more than a logistical expansion. It signals the continued mainstream rise of experiential running in the Philippines, where participation is fueled as much by atmosphere and shared energy as by speed and competition.
