Anton Vinzon Honors Roi Vinzon in First Solo Lead Series Kamao

Former Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0 housemate Anton Vinzon is stepping into a defining moment in his career with the launch of Kamao, a sports drama that doubles as a personal tribute to his father, veteran action star Roi Vinzon.

Rather than treating the project as another television assignment, Anton views the series as a symbolic passing of the torch. Leading a primetime-caliber production for the first time while sharing the screen with his father has placed the young actor under intense pressure, but it has also sharpened his sense of purpose.

Anton revealed that one of his biggest hopes is to make his father proud once the audience sees the pilot episode. The emotional weight of the series is amplified by the fact that this marks the first time the father-and-son tandem will work together in a major scripted production.

In Kamao, Anton portrays Makmak, an aspiring boxer determined to rise above the controversies attached to his family name. The character is caught between ambition and legacy as he navigates the shadow cast by his former boxing champion father, played by Neil Ryan Sese, while enduring the rigid discipline imposed by his grandfather, portrayed by Roi.

The series frames boxing not merely as a sport but as a metaphor for generational conflict. Every match becomes an extension of family expectations, reputation, and survival. Much like fighters absorbing punishment inside the ring, the characters are forced to withstand emotional blows outside of it.

Despite his decades of experience in action cinema, Roi openly admitted that his son has already surpassed him in several aspects as a performer. He emphasized that he did not heavily train Anton himself, suggesting that the younger actor developed his craft through his own discipline and instinct.

Roi also made it clear that accepting the role was never negotiable. Whether cast as a grandfather, father, or any supporting figure, he said he would always support projects involving his son and GMA Network.

For Anton, the responsibility of leading a cast filled with seasoned performers remains intimidating. Still, he appears determined to embrace the challenge rather than retreat from it. He acknowledged the exhaustion, anxiety, and pressure attached to the role, yet maintained that his excitement continues to outweigh his fears.

The ensemble cast of Kamao also includes Amy Austria, Katrina Halili, and Wendell Ramos. The series likewise introduces emerging talents such as Bruce Roeland, Therese Malvar, Chanty Videla, Matt Lozano, and Euwenn Mikaell.

Directed by L.A. Madridejos and Richard Arellano, with Kevin de Vela serving as associate director, the drama officially premieres on the afternoon programming block of GMA Network.
