South Korean entertainment star Rain is set to join
Netflix’s highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Solo Leveling, taking on
the role of one of the series’ most influential hunters.
Netflix Korea confirmed Rain’s casting on Wednesday, ending
months of speculation surrounding his involvement in the project. He will
portray Baek Yoon-ho, an S-rank hunter and head of the White Tiger Guild who
takes an active interest in protagonist Sung Jin-woo and seeks to recruit him
into his organization.
The casting gives the production another established name
alongside its lead stars Byeon Woo-seok and Han So-hee. The series is expected
to expand its ensemble with several characters who occupy important positions
within the hunter system.
Kang Yu-seok has been cast as Yoo Jin-ho, a wealthy C-rank
hunter who becomes one of Jin-woo’s closest companions during perilous dungeon
missions. Seong Jun will play Woo Jin-cheol, a high-ranking hunter affiliated
with the Korea Hunter Association, while veteran actor Lee Sung-min will
portray Go Geon-hee, the organization’s chairman.
The story centers on Sung Jin-woo, initially regarded as the
weakest type of hunter in a world where supernatural abilities have transformed
humanity’s relationship with danger. Hunters enter mysterious portals
connecting the human world to monster-filled realms, with their missions
focused on containing the threats emerging from these gateways.
Jin-woo’s journey takes a dramatic turn as he gains
abilities that allow him to progress beyond the limitations imposed by his
original status. His transformation from a low-level hunter into a formidable
force forms the central premise of the franchise.
Solo Leveling originated as a popular South Korean manhwa
and has since developed into a major international entertainment property. Its
animated adaptation ran for 25 episodes and is available for streaming on
Netflix, helping establish a broad global audience ahead of the live-action
version.
Netflix is currently targeting a late 2027 or 2028 release for the live-action Solo Leveling. With Rain joining an ensemble that includes prominent actors from South Korea’s film and television industry, the adaptation is positioning itself as one of the platform’s more ambitious Korean productions.
