Calabarzon Workers to Receive Higher Minimum Wages
Starting October 26
Around 1.56 million minimum wage earners across Calabarzon
are expected to benefit from higher daily pay beginning October 26, following
the approval of new regional wage rates. The adjustment will provide increases
of up to ₱45 per day, equivalent to approximately ₱1,170 per month, according
to the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB).
The new rates are covered by Wage Order IVA-23, which sets
different wage adjustments based on industry classification and the
municipality or city where workers are employed. The variation reflects
differences in local economic conditions and the applicable wage categories
across Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will monitor
the implementation to ensure employers comply with the new wage requirements.
Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino said the department would oversee enforcement
to help maintain the effectiveness of regional wage policies.
Domestic workers will also receive a pay increase under a
separate wage order. Approximately 201,000 kasambahay in the region are covered
by Wage Order RB-IVA-DW-06, which raises the monthly minimum wage by ₱750 to
₱7,500.
The adjustment applies to both live-in and live-out domestic
workers, including household helpers, nannies, cooks, gardeners and laundry
workers. Family drivers, service providers and individuals hired for occasional
or sporadic work are excluded from the order.
The National Wages and Productivity Commission approved the
increases after considering the region's socioeconomic conditions, the needs of
workers and the financial capacity of employers. The commission includes
representatives from labor organizations, employer groups and government
agencies.
The wage adjustments are intended to improve workers' earnings while accounting for the varying economic circumstances of employers and communities throughout Calabarzon.
