The Philippine government has repatriated 383 overseas
Filipino workers (OFWs) and their dependents from Saudi Arabia since October 19
as authorities continue responding to security concerns in the Middle Eastern
country.
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas
Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) are coordinating the return of affected
Filipinos, providing assistance to help them transition safely from overseas
employment back to their communities in the Philippines.
Among the latest arrivals were 117 OFWs who landed at Ninoy
Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 on October 25.
Beyond organizing their return flights, government agencies
are addressing the immediate needs of repatriated workers. Assistance includes
medical services, financial support, temporary shelter and transportation to
their respective provinces. These measures aim to ease the difficulties workers
may face after leaving their jobs and returning home unexpectedly.
As of Monday, authorities had assisted 4,049 OFWs affected
by the security situation in Saudi Arabia, delivering a total of 5,496
services. The assistance covers food, medical care, accommodation, land
transportation, financial aid and repatriation.
OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan said the agency
would continue supporting affected workers until they could return to their
home provinces. She also emphasized the government's priority of accelerating
the repatriation process.
The DMW has urged Filipinos affected by the situation to
contact the agency's Migrant Workers Offices for assistance.
The ongoing response highlights the importance of
coordinated government support during overseas emergencies. For returning
workers, repatriation involves more than securing a flight home. Access to
temporary accommodation, financial assistance and transportation can help
bridge the gap between leaving a potentially unsafe situation and rebuilding
stability in their home communities.
