73 Motorcycles Added to Metro Manila Police Fleet for Faster 911 Response

 

Metro Manila police units are set to strengthen their emergency response capabilities with the deployment of 73 new motorcycles provided by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla formally turned over the motorcycles to the National Capital Region Police Office, with NCRPO officer-in-charge Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano and DILG Undersecretary Jed Patrick Mabilog present during the handover.

The new motorcycles are intended to address one of the most persistent obstacles to rapid police response in the capital: heavy traffic.

Unlike patrol cars, motorcycles can navigate congested roads and narrow routes more efficiently, allowing officers to reach locations where every minute can be critical. Remulla emphasized that this mobility makes motorcycles a practical option for responding to 911 emergency calls across densely populated areas.

The investment also reflects a cost-conscious approach to police fleet modernization. Remulla noted that motorcycles require substantially less government spending than patrol vehicles, allowing authorities to expand the number of mobile units without incurring the same costs associated with additional police cars.

Initial deployment covers police stations in Manila, Pasay, Pasig, Quezon City and Taguig.

More local government units across Metro Manila are expected to receive motorcycles under the continuing Philippine National Police refleeting program. Remulla said the program is conducted annually as part of efforts to maintain and improve the operational readiness of police units.

Abrahano expressed appreciation for the support from Remulla and PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., noting that additional mobility assets are important to the effectiveness of emergency response operations.

With Metro Manila's traffic conditions frequently slowing conventional vehicles, the expanded motorcycle fleet gives police units another tool to close the distance between emergency calls and the officers responding to them.
