Pokémon Game On! Expands Official Battle Opportunities Across Asia

 

Pokémon is broadening its competitive ecosystem across Asia with the launch of Pokémon Game On!, a regional initiative designed to make official Pokémon battles more approachable while giving seasoned players additional avenues to compete and improve.

Announced on August 7, the program covers Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. Its rollout coincides with the opening of the 2026-27 Pokémon Asia Championship Series and the beginning of registration for the Premier Ball League.

At its core, Pokémon Game On! is intended to remove some of the uncertainty surrounding organized play. Instead of leaving players to navigate a wide range of tournaments on their own, Pokémon has introduced an event map that categorizes official Pokémon Trading Card Game activities according to different levels of experience and competitive ambition.

The event map is designed to help newcomers identify suitable introductory events, while casual players can find competitions that match their preferred level of engagement. More experienced competitors can likewise use the resource to locate higher-level tournaments.

The initiative will also become a visible part of upcoming Pokémon competitions. Starting with the 2026-27 Pokémon Asia Championship Series, participating events will incorporate Pokémon Game On! branding through posters, venue decorations and special prizes.

A new match-starting call will also be introduced, with Game on! serving as the signal that a battle is about to begin.

Promotional Pokémon cards are scheduled for distribution beginning September 1 at participating Pokémon Trading Card Game Gyms. Eligible event participants may receive the cards as part of the initiative.

Asia Championship Series begins September 1

The competitive side of the program will gain momentum on September 1, when the 2026-27 Pokémon Asia Championship Series officially begins across the seven participating regions.

The championship series serves as a pathway toward the Pokémon World Championships. Regional competitors will battle through the season for the opportunity to emerge as champions and earn representation at the annual global competition.

The 2026-27 series is organized into four tournament tiers, providing a progression from smaller-scale competition to the highest levels of regional play:

• Great Ball League
• Ultra Ball League
• Premier Ball League
• Master Ball League

The tiered structure gives players a clearer competitive progression. Beginners can enter organized play at a more approachable level, while established competitors can pursue increasingly demanding tournaments as their experience and ambitions grow.

The Premier Ball League is also opening registration alongside the Pokémon Game On! announcement, adding an immediate competitive opportunity for players seeking a more serious tournament environment.

Two competitive formats, one regional circuit

The 2026-27 Pokémon Asia Championship Series will feature two principal competition categories.

The TCG Category centers on the Pokémon Trading Card Game, where players compete using their decks and strategic knowledge in structured matches.

The VGC Category, meanwhile, focuses on battles played through the Pokémon Champions game, giving video game competitors their own pathway within the championship circuit.

Together, the two formats broaden the scope of the Asia Championship Series and allow players to pursue competitive Pokémon through different styles of play.

With Pokémon Game On!, the company is effectively positioning organized Pokémon play as a progression rather than a single destination. Players can begin casually, develop their skills through accessible events and eventually move toward increasingly competitive tournaments.
