eGilas Pilipinas Wins First eFIBA World Championship After Dominant Run in Doha

eGilas Pilipinas Captures Historic First eFIBA World Championship in Doha

Years of steady progress finally culminated in a world title for eGilas Pilipinas as the Philippine Men's National NBA 2K Team secured its first-ever eFIBA World Finals championship in Doha, Qatar.

After settling for fourth place in each of the previous two editions, the Filipinos completed their breakthrough campaign by defeating Turkiye in straight games during the grand finals. eGilas prevailed 64-62 in a tense opening match before sealing the championship with a convincing 68-60 victory, earning the Season 4 title and the tournament's $20,000 grand prize.

The championship reflected more than just success in the final series. It highlighted a team that consistently outperformed the world's strongest NBA 2K national squads throughout the competition. Across the two-day event, eGilas lost only one game, demonstrating remarkable consistency on both ends of the virtual court.

Representing the Philippines were Miguel Carlo LGE_miguelcarlo Hubillar, Chris LGE_iLuvio Briones, Kenneth LGE_Clue Gutierrez, Joshua LGE_JMacc Machado, and Prich LGE_DonP Diez. Guiding the squad were coaches Nite Alparas and Anthony De Jesus, whose preparation helped the team maintain its composure against elite international opponents.

The Philippines established its dominance early in the tournament. Group stage victories over France, 64-53, Algeria, 73-52, and Germany, 72-45, secured momentum heading into the knockout rounds. eGilas then eliminated Lebanon with a 67-58 victory in the upper bracket semifinals.

Its most demanding challenge came against France in the upper bracket finals. After falling 52-61 in the opening game, the Filipinos responded with back-to-back wins, 63-59 and 67-64, to secure a place in the championship series. Advancing through the upper bracket also awarded eGilas a 1-0 series advantage entering the finals, placing the team within striking distance of the title.

Turkiye pushed the Philippines in the opening championship game, but eGilas delivered a crucial defensive stop during the closing moments to preserve a narrow two-point victory. With confidence firmly on its side, the Philippine squad controlled the second game and completed the series sweep to officially become world champions.

Individual recognition followed the team's historic achievement. Hubillar earned the tournament's Most Valuable Player award after leading the Philippines throughout the competition. Gutierrez was named Best Defensive Player after averaging 3.0 steals per game. Hubillar, Gutierrez, and Machado also secured spots in the tournament's All-Star Five, joining France's Mehdi Ben Sethoum and Turkiye's Mecit Can Boy.

The championship represents the culmination of a carefully built program rather than an unexpected triumph. Consecutive fourth-place finishes in Sweden in 2023 and in Clark, Pampanga in 2024 provided valuable international experience, allowing eGilas to refine its approach against the world's best teams. This year's performance demonstrated how sustained development and resilience can transform a contender into a champion.

With its first eFIBA World Finals crown now secured, eGilas Pilipinas has established a new benchmark for Philippine esports and reinforced the country's growing reputation as a legitimate force in competitive NBA 2K on the global stage.
