Changan Introduces the Eado Plus as a New Contender in the Compact Sedan Segment

 

Selling brand-new vehicles has become increasingly challenging as fuel prices continue to climb, forcing many buyers to reconsider the practicality of owning a car. Yet demand for affordable sedans that balance interior space and fuel efficiency has not disappeared. Recognizing this gap, Changan has introduced a new model designed to compete directly with some of the most familiar names in the entry-level sedan market.

Through its Philippine distributor, Inchcape Philippines, the Chinese automaker formally unveiled the all-new Eado Plus during a launch event at the company’s flagship showroom in Pasig City. The model assumes the position previously held by the Alsvin and is intended to strengthen Changan’s presence in the highly competitive compact sedan category.

A Model With Strong Momentum

The Eado nameplate is not new to the global market. First introduced in China in 2012, the sedan was developed to address growing demand for vehicles that combine contemporary styling with everyday efficiency. Over time, the model has evolved into one of the brand’s major volume contributors.

Sales performance reflects that trajectory. In 2025 alone, the Eado recorded 168,900 units sold, earning recognition from the China Passenger Car Association as the country’s top gasoline-powered sedan brand for the year. Such figures suggest that Changan is not simply introducing another sedan into the Philippine market, but rather bringing in a model with a proven track record.

The Eado Plus is positioned to compete against long-standing favorites such as the Toyota Vios, Mitsubishi Mirage G4, and MG 5. At the same time, its size and features allow it to cross into territory occupied by slightly larger models including the Toyota Corolla Altis and MG GT.

Two Variants for Different Buyers

Changan is offering the Eado Plus locally in two versions: the Eado Plus Lite and the higher-spec Eado Plus Luxe. Both variants share the same fundamental design and mechanical foundation, but the Luxe adds a more extensive list of convenience and technology features.

This two-tier approach reflects a common strategy among automakers. One version appeals to buyers seeking maximum value at the lowest price point, while the other caters to those willing to spend more for additional technology and comfort.

Exterior Design That Commands Attention

The Eado Plus adopts a bold front-end design dominated by a wide gloss-black grille that stretches into the lower bumper area. The grille visually merges with halogen projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights, creating a broad, assertive front profile.

Viewed from the side, the sedan features a high beltline accompanied by a pronounced character crease that runs along the doors. This design element gives the body a more sculpted appearance while maintaining the balanced proportions typical of compact sedans.

Wheel options differ between the two trims. The Lite variant rides on 16-inch steel wheels, while the Luxe model receives 16-inch alloy wheels that add a slightly more refined look.

At the rear, full-width LED taillights form a clean horizontal signature. A subtle trunk spoiler integrates into the deck lid, while reflectors frame the license plate area. Buyers can choose from four exterior colors: White, Black, Andean Gray, and Titanium Silver Gray, the latter available through special order.

A Cabin Built Around Modern Technology

Inside, the Eado Plus presents a more contemporary layout compared with several aging competitors in the same price bracket. The dashboard emphasizes clean lines and digital displays, reflecting a design philosophy that prioritizes usability and visual clarity.

All variants feature fabric upholstery and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Practical touches include LED reading lamps, a 12-volt power outlet, and USB ports accessible to both front and rear passengers. The air-conditioning system incorporates a PM2.5 filtration feature designed to improve cabin air quality.

The Lite trim includes a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

The Luxe variant expands significantly on this equipment list. It introduces a larger 10-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Additional upgrades include automatic climate control with rear air vents, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column, and an electronic gear selector.

Cargo flexibility is also improved in the Luxe through folding rear seats, allowing owners to expand the already generous 500-liter trunk capacity when transporting larger items.

Straightforward Engineering Under the Hood

Rather than adopting turbocharged or hybrid powertrains, the Eado Plus relies on a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter gasoline engine. The twin-cam, 16-valve unit produces 105 horsepower and 145 Newton-meters of torque.

This approach prioritizes mechanical simplicity. While more complex powertrains may promise higher performance figures, naturally aspirated engines often deliver predictable operation and lower maintenance complexity, factors that can appeal strongly to budget-conscious buyers.

Power is delivered to the wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Luxe variant adds selectable Eco and Normal driving modes, allowing drivers to adjust the vehicle’s behavior depending on efficiency or responsiveness needs.

The chassis uses widely adopted components in this class: MacPherson strut suspension at the front and a torsion beam setup at the rear. Electric power steering manages steering input, completing a configuration designed for daily commuting and urban driving conditions.

Safety Features Across the Range

Changan equips the Eado Plus with a set of safety features that aligns with expectations for modern compact sedans.

Standard equipment includes dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system, traction control, hill-hold control, hill-start assist, rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX anchors for child safety seats.

The Luxe trim adds further protection and convenience. Side airbags supplement the front units, while an electronic parking brake replaces the conventional lever. A reversing camera assists with parking maneuvers, and the vehicle gains push-button start, remote engine start capability, and speed-sensitive door locks.

A Strategic Entry Into a Crowded Market

Compact sedans remain one of the most contested segments in the Philippine automotive market. Buyers often evaluate models based on a careful balance of price, fuel economy, interior space, and long-term reliability.

The Eado Plus appears designed with this equation in mind. Its formula combines familiar mechanical engineering, contemporary cabin technology, and a generous trunk capacity within a price-focused package.

For Changan, the model serves not only as a replacement for the Alsvin but also as a strategic move to strengthen the brand’s presence in a segment dominated by long-established competitors. If its performance in China is any indication, the Eado Plus may prove capable of attracting buyers who want modern features without stepping far beyond an entry-level budget.
