PhilHealth Gamot Program Expands to Quezon Province with P20,000 Free Medicine Coverage

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has extended its Guaranteed and Accessible Medications for Outpatient Treatment (Gamot) program to Quezon Province, enabling residents to access medicines valued at up to P20,000 per year at no cost.

The provincial launch was led by PhilHealth Chief Executive Officer Edwin Mercado, Department of Health Secretary Dr. Teodoro Herbosa, and Quezon Governor Helen Tan, signaling a significant step in broadening healthcare access in the region.

Initially introduced in August 2025, the Gamot initiative has grown from providing 21 essential medicines to 75, all available to PhilHealth members enrolled in Yakap (Yaman ng Kalusugan) clinics. The program is designed to cover a comprehensive range of common conditions, including infections, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, cardiovascular disorders, and nervous system-related ailments, alongside supportive therapies.

The Department of Health assured that the DOH Calabarzon office, covering Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon, is actively coordinating with accredited Gamot providers to maintain an uninterrupted supply of medications throughout the region.

The program operates like a digital medical wallet. Prescriptions issued by certified Yakap physicians are redeemable at participating pharmacies, ensuring patients receive medications without out-of-pocket expenses.

Enrollment in the Gamot package requires registration as a Yakap beneficiary via the eGovPH app, the PhilHealth online portal, or local PhilHealth offices. To claim free medicines, beneficiaries must present a valid government-issued ID and a prescription from a Yakap or PhilHealth-certified physician.

This expansion represents a strategic effort to integrate preventive and routine outpatient care into the broader healthcare system, reducing financial barriers for thousands of PhilHealth members across Quezon Province.
